Dolan, Thomas sentence Knicks to mediocrity

The New York Times reports this morning that Isiah Thomas will receive a multi-year extension to remain as coach and general manager of the New York Knicks.

That hardly comes as a surprise since the 29-34 Knicks are in the playoff hunt and have shown the "evident progress" owner James Dolan demanded from Thomas following last season's 23-win disaster under Larry Brown. With that decree as the measuring stick, Dolan had little choice but to keep Thomas.

I am on record as saying that keeping Thomas will not help the Knicks long-term, and I am sticking to that.

Thomas has taken the Knicks from awful to mediocre. Can he take them from mediocre to good or very good?

I'll believe it when I see it.
