Have you heard? Mavs vs. Warriors is a pretty good series

The wackiest, most entertaining series of the NBA Playoffs thus far has been the Golden State-Dallas matchup. At least that's what I've read and heard on the radio talk shows.

Too bad most of the action has occurred so late at night that half the country has already been asleep. Tonight's Game 6 starts at 10:30 p.m. EST. In the spirit of the newly-founded tradition here at The View, the NBA and Commissioner David Stern have to get a Wet Willie for that.

In case you haven't followed it, let's recap this series so far.

  • The eighth-seeded Warriors lead the top-seeded Mavericks, who many -- including yours truly -- picked to win the NBA title, 3-2. The Warriors came within a 15-0 run by Dallas at the end of Game 5 from already eliminating the Mavericks.
  • The Warriors might be winning, but they are certainly not acting like it. Stephen Jackson has been ejected from two games and Baron Davis one for arguing with the refs. Coach Don Nelson keeps trying to exert some control by fining his misbehaiving troops, and yet every time they lose they seem to implode. Memo to Nellie: Fine him all you want, but Jackson's not gonna listen. After his role in the brawl in Detroit a couple of years ago and a nightclub incident where he fired a gun, you should have figured that out.
  • You've got Mavericks coach Avery Johnson calling out his own superstar, possible MVP Dirk Nowtizki, for -- basically -- playing like a sissy through the first four games. Nowitzki finally showed up late in Game 5, scoring 12 of the Mavs last 15 points in a come-from-behind season-saving victory.
  • Also, of course, you have the intrigue of Nelson, who coached Dallas for eight years, going up against Johnson, whom he groomed for the Mavericks post.
  • Oh, and the fact that the Warriors are on the verge of an absolutely huge upset.
In the words of the NBA's own advertising campaign, tonight should be 'Fan-tastic.' Too bad it's on TV too late for most of the fans.
